Archil's Wine

The history of our cellar, founded in 2011, is rooted in deep respect for the vine and the heritage of Georgian winemaking. In 2010, we purchased an old vineyard. On its 0.84 hectares grew Rkatsiteli and Saperavi grapevines planted back in 1970. They were in poor condition—aged, misshapen, and sparse. Experienced winegrowers advised me to uproot them and start anew. But where others saw only decline, I saw great potential, nurtured by life experience. Soon, the vine revealed its true strength. Through years of dedication, tender care, and harmony with nature’s rhythm, the vineyard was reborn. As a reward, we received exceptional wines with incomparable aromas—an expression of gratitude from the vine itself. In honor of this legacy, the old vine is depicted on the label of Archil’s Wine. Since the beginning, my winemaking journey has been guided by a constant search for improvement and innovation. I combine the traditional Kakhuri method of winemaking (allowing stems and skins to remain in contact during fermentation), modern techniques (aging in oak barrels), and my own approach (based on the vineyard’s location and the grape varieties’ characteristics). The result is wines of the highest quality. Today, our annual production is around 8,000–10,000 bottles. From vineyard to customer, every bottle is crafted by hand, allowing full control over quality. Freshly harvested grapes are immediately taken to the winery’s receiving area, where they are sorted, destemmed, and pressed. During winter, sedimentation and stabilization occur naturally through the cold. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels, where it matures for 18–24 months. Careful observation and laboratory controls ensure its healthy development. After bottling, the wine is sealed with high-quality natural cork and continues aging for another 12–18 months before release. Thanks to this dedication, Archil’s Wine has been recognized by sommeliers and wine lovers for many years. It has received numerous awards at international competitions, and today it is enjoyed across the world—in Poland, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, England, France, Ukraine, Israel, and Singapore. Each bottle tells the story of Georgia’s eternal beauty, resilience, and authenticity.

Kurdgelauri village, Kakheti

Winery location map

Around 65–70% of Georgian vineyards are located in Kakheti. The finest vineyards in this region are planted in the basins of the Alazani and Iori rivers, at an altitude of 400–700 meters above sea level. Our vineyard lies on the right bank of the Alazani River, on the slopes of Mount Tsiv-Gombori, at an altitude of 510 meters, within the Tsinandali microzone in the village of Kurdgelauri. The climate here is moderately continental. The cool breeze flowing from Mount Tsiv-Gombori creates wide fluctuations in day and night temperatures, resulting in an ideal microclimate for grape ripening. The loamy soil, rich in minerals, imparts a distinctive and special character to the wines produced here. At present, the total area of our vineyard is 2.24 hectares. Of this, the old vineyard purchased in 2010 consists of 0.74 hectares of Rkatsiteli and 0.1 hectares of Saperavi. Later plantings include 0.6 hectares of Saperavi and 0.8 hectares of Kisi. Old vines play a vital role in shaping the wine’s quality. Their deep roots draw a wide spectrum of minerals from the soil, contributing to complex aromas and flavors. At the same time, older vines produce fewer grapes, which enhances concentration, elevates quality, and creates wines of distinctive character. Since 2014, we have used only biological and environmentally friendly products for vineyard care, including herbal infusions prepared by us. To ensure quality, we place special emphasis on agro-technological practices in vineyard management and on careful grape selection. In years of abundant harvest, we carry out a “green harvest”—removing some grape clusters to reduce yield, which allows the remaining bunches to achieve greater quality, resulting in wines of the highest standard.
