Overview

Vazisubani is a classic PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) of Kakheti, known for its dry white wines made from a blend of Rkatsiteli (რქაწითელი) and Kakhuri Mtsvane (კახური მწვანე). Situated near the village of Vazisubani, just west of Telavi, the zone lies on the transitional belt between the Alazani Valley and the Gombori slopes - a setting that combines warmth, sunlight, and cooling winds to produce white wines of remarkable balance and aromatic complexity.

Vazisubani wines are graceful and structured, with a style often described as the “textbook Georgian white” - bright, floral, and mineral, bridging the richness of Kakheti with the refinement of cooler upland sites.

Geography & climate

The Vazisubani PDO occupies the western slopes of the Alazani Valley, between 350 and 800 meters above sea level, covering parts of the Telavi municipality. Soils are loamy and limestone-rich, with excellent drainage and moderate fertility.

The climate is moderately humid continental, with warm, dry summers and cool nights. The diurnal range enhances acidity retention, while steady sunshine ensures full flavor development in both Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane.

Authorized grape varieties

The appellation allows both single-varietal and blended wines, encouraging stylistic diversity while maintaining regional typicity.

Wine styles & characteristics

Vazisubani PDO (ვაზისუბანი) represents the quintessential Kakhetian white blend - structured, fragrant, and refined. The partnership of Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane yields a wine that captures the best of both: strength and elegance. Crisp, balanced, and expressive, Vazisubani remains one of Georgia's most dependable and food-friendly appellations.
